£1000+ for Comic Relief
16 March 2009STORES AND CUSTOMERS AT THE QUEENSMEREOBSERVATORY HAVE RAISED OVER £1,000 FOR COMIC RELIEF AND THE TOTAL IS STILL RISING!
Ryman, one of the two main sponsors for this years Comic Relief have so far raised £500 through generous customers giving donations for face painting, balloons and red noses. They are also continuing to run a competition to guess how many red balloons are in their window until the end of this week. The closest guess will win a prize of either dinner for two at very swanky local restaurant, or a £25.00 gift voucher from Ryman.

Last Thursday Paul Clifford, Centre Director dressed up in a Superman Fat Suit and collected donations in the Centre, raising over £300. Paul told us, ‘It was definitely an experience and good fun, but that’s what it’s all about isn’t it. Tina Chant, the centre’s Retail Manager, came along on the walk about with me and was fantastic at persuading people to make donations. I think it just goes to show that even in a time when everyone is tightening their belts people are still thinking about and giving to those less fortunate than themselves’.
On Friday Red Nose Day started with a ‘Nose and Spoon’ relay race. Shoppers watched as eight teams from the centre dressed in fancy dress ran a hysterical, if not very competitive relay race through the centre. The winning team was Barclays Bank, who was given a voucher for meals and drinks, kindly donated by Nando’s. Virgin Active also picked a prize from Nando’s for their fantastic Scooby Doo costumes. The comical race raised over £100 from shoppers and teams donating for entering.
Snappy Snaps were also in the centre as where the cast of the new Theatre Royal stage show Dinner Ladies and managed to raise almost £200 from shoppers between them. Pizza Hut, Perfume Warehouse, Sin City, BB’s, Hard Fashions and Home-style generously donated items for a raffle which brought in a further £90.00, bringing the figure up to over £1,120 so far!
