Home grown funky fashions come to QueensmereObservatory

Budding Donatella Versaces, Alexander McQueens and Stella McCartneys are to be given an opportunity to put their talents to the test in Slough this month.

QueensmereObservatory is inviting fashion-conscious youngsters – and anyone else - to a series of exciting – and free – workshops specially designed to show off local artistic flare.

Kevin Smith, the Centre’s Marketing Director, explained: “Everyone is welcome – young and old, not just the fashion conscious.”

“It’s a fun idea to encourage the concept of recycling by getting everyone to create new fashion accessories from recycled items of clothing in the true Blue Peter tradition. “The workshops will be run by two professional designers, one of whom works in the theatre and the other in fashion. They will be sharing their ideas and encouraging everyone to come up with bold, funky, edgy but most of all fun stuff.”

In the lead up to the workshops, large recycle bins will be displayed at QueensmereObservatory, starting Monday 16 July. H&M store will also be collecting old items on behalf of the centre.

In addition, fun packed information sheets offering useful tips and advise will be available at the centre or can be downloaded for its website – www.queensmereobservatory.co.uk

Kevin added: ”What we would like everyone to do is bring along items of clothing and other fashion accessories that are “so last season” and then come to the workshops and create a whole new look.”

“They can, if they prefer, create a new look at home and bring in your recycled fashion for a chance to win a prize.”

Make a date for the following workshops: Friday 03 August – Summer Fashion

Make a new fashion statement from the old.

Old jeans become flamboyant shorts; tops get cut away and decorated, create disposable clothes from old newspaper. Flipflops get made over to become the coolest summer look.

Friday 17 August – Summer accessories

Refresh your accessories

Bored already of this year’s sunglasses, refresh and reinvent your shaded eyes for the last days of summer. Heading on hols for the last of summer rays, decorate your wrap to give on beach standout and create the coolest of hats for protection from the sun.

Friday 31 August – Back to school

Summer ends and school returns.

Create your own pencil case and desk organiser that will be the envy of your classmates and teachers alike. At each event, pictures will be taken of all entries that will be displayed on boards at the end of the day with the opportunity for the public to vote for their favourite recycled look and the winners will receive some fab summer freebies. So this summer you and your kids can create your own unique look, courtesy of QueensmereObservatory a shopping centre for all your summer needs.
